Crews battle vacant house fire in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A vacant house goes up in flames Thursday morning near 6th Street and 6th Avenue.

Around 3 a.m. the Rockford Fire Department responded to the 800 block of South 6th Street for reports of a structure fire. Firefighters reported massive flames coming from the two-story building.

Crews worked to contain the blaze from further spreading, lasting for several hours. Officials ask the public to avoid the area through Thursday morning as firefighters are working at the scene as the building is being demolished.

No firefighters were injured. The damages are estimated at $30,000.
