Consumer safety group reveals list of 10 worst holiday toys

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Make your list and check it twice, especially if you're buying a gift for your little one soon.

A consumer safety group, known as World Against Toys Causing Harm, Inc., compiled a list of the 10 worst toys for this holiday season.

For the more than 40 years, the group has released the list and guidelines to help parents make safer choices.

While gift shopping many of the products present choking, eye and other safety hazards frequently found in poorly designed toys.

World Against Toys Causing Harm also cites the products for having inconsistent and inadequate warnings labels.

Leaders say to keep up on the latest trends for toy safety and recent recalls while shopping.

"When it comes to making toys, safety cannot be an afterthought," says Joan Stiff, president of World Against Toys Causing Harm. "That's why this presentation was so important because we don't want to wait until children are injured or die. We don't want to wait until a toddler has a toy in their hands with a small part that could potentially be deadly."

A Nerf dart gun, ice cream-scented Nickelodeon slime and a plastic Power Rangers claw made this year's list. The complete list can be found here.
