Congresswoman Cheri Bustos came to Rockford Wednesday and embarked on a tour of Lincoln Middle school.

"Our kids are leaders and they gave her a little tour of some of the unique facets of Lincoln Middle School," says school principal Kirsten Garrigan.

The student led tour took Bustos from looking through the school's oldest yearbook to stepping into a transition program of instruction classroom. Bustos met students who have been in the country for less than a year.

"When I said what do you like best about school, and you had a young boy said learning," says Bustos.

Impressed with the student body population, students got the chance to ask Bustos hard-hitting questions.

22% of students at Lincoln Middle school are English learners.

"We embrace it, we love the culture here, we love the fact that we have a rainbow full of kids in our building," says Garrigan.

For Bustos, the tour was a reminder of something we all aspire to in this country.

"We walk away from a classroom, again from kids coming from all over the world and their families just want to be able to achieve the American Dream," says Bustos.
