CHANA, Ill. (WIFR) ----- To celebrate the legacy of a special forest city man with a green thumb as big as his heart, visitors at the hidden timber gardens in Chana spent their Saturday unveiling a memorial garden in his honor.

Hundreds of different types of daylilys surrounded all who came to remember the late Robert Ellison, a Rockford greenhouse owner and daylily hybridizer who dedicated his life to cultivating beautiful flowers around the Stateline.
Former colleagues, like Michelle Rogers say today's ribbon cutting is just another reminder of how much Ellison meant to everyone he met.
"I hope they get some really nice flowers, but again, to carry on his memory and just let people know what he did and kind of his life's work and to keep that going, and then to just enjoy the beauty of it," said Rogers.
