ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- After eight years, the City of Rockford comes to a settlement with the officer involved in the fatal shooting of Mark Barmore back in 2009.

Rockford Police Officer Oda Poole was put on paid administrative leave in August 2009 after a physical struggle with Mark Barmore led to the fatal shooting.

Officer Poole was fired from the Rockford Police Department in July 2011 when the city alleged that he was unfit for duty.

After a series of legal actions, the city has agreed to pay Poole $700,000 in worker's compensation to be paid to Poole over four years. As part of the deal, Officer Poole will retire from the Rockford Police Department in good standing.
