Rockford, Ill (WIFR) -- Middle and high schools student from Christian Life schools took to neighborhoods around the community to “Earth Beat.”

The cleanup day got its name back in 1993, and students have been cleaning up city schools and parks ever since. The school partnered up with the Rockford Park District to identify locations that needed the most help.

The annual day of service is a fundraising opportunity for the school, but also serves as an important lesson for the kids: giving back to their community.

Students and faculty went to seven different sites all over the city to help plant trees, spread mulch and pick up debris.
