Chicago man sentenced 18 years for Belvidere truck stop robbery

BOONE COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Chicago man was sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to an armed robbery at a Speedway Truckstop in Belvidere.

Police say Brian Ormond, 20, and three others robbed the shop at 2091 Crystal Parkway on May 15, 2017.

Employees say the suspects took off with money from the cash register and coin dispenser.

The armed man, later identified as Damarcus Gilmore, 20, was sentenced to 24 years in prison in March. Two juveniles were also caught on surveillance video during the robbery.

Officers found the suspects' car near East Dundee, Illinois in Kane County. Police say the suspects were stopped after a similar armed robbery in that area.

Police recovered a weapon after the traffic stop. The driver, Santrell Tamir, pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery charges, He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and four years of probation.

Ormond was previously sentenced to 15 years for two armed robberies in Kane County. He also has alleged ties to another armed robbery case in DuPage County that remains pending.
