Chicago man charged for armed robbery of Rockford T-Mobile

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Chicago man was charged for an armed robbery at a T-Mobile store in Rockford.

Vonte Spain, 26, is accused of holding up the store with handgun while stealing items and personal belongings from employees.

Rockford Police responded to the store at 2430 Charles Street shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday. Officers say two male suspects entered the business and held up two employees while armed with handguns.

The suspects stole several cell phones and accessories, in addition to the employees' wallets and other belongings. Police say no one was hurt.

Officers from the Chicago Police Department helped with the investigation and later spotted the suspect vehicle, a stolen Kia Sorento. Police eventually stopped the vehicle, taking Spain and another suspect into custody.

Police recovered two handguns and several items stolen from T-Mobile. Both suspects are being held on local charges in Chicago.

Investigators say additional arrests are possible. Spain and other suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
