Chemical spill forces employees to evacuate Freeport manufacturing plant

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) Employees at a Freeport manufacturing plant evacuate Tuesday night after a hazardous material spill.

Officials say they responded to Modern Plating Corporation in the 700 block of Hancock Avenue just after 5:30 p.m. City leaders tell 23 News there was a hydrochloric acid spill after a tank ruptured during a transfer from a truck to a containment area.
All employees evacuated. No injuries have been reported. Hazmat teams were called in. The spill has been cleaned up.
