Cheesemaker seeks sustainable water treatment

KENT, Ill. (WIFR) -- Nuestro Queso sells cheeses all across the country. Each of the cheeses they sell are produced at their factory in Kent, Illinois. The Stephenson County factory does not have a system where it can dump the water that is produced to make the cheese products.

That is about to change because the company is currently building what they call "Sustainability Reserve Lagoons" across the street from the factory. These lagoons will collect the water from the factory and it will then be used to irrigate the surrounding crops across nearly 100 acres of land.

The company said this is just one of the ways it is working to become more sustainable in the future. These lagoons will be up and in full operation by the end of November.
