CLIVE, IA -- A central Iowa mother became $343.9 million richer as she claimed her Powerball jackpot Monday, the largest lottery prize ever won in the state of Iowa.
51-year-old Lerynne West was moving into a new home last week when she picked up an easy pick Powerball ticket with her sister at a Casey’s General Store. The day after the drawing, West realized she had misplaced her ticket and called her sister who found it on the floor of her truck. Her sister sent West a picture of the ticket, she checked the numbers online and realized she had won. The single mother of three says this win will change her life.
“I plan to make thoughtful and responsible decisions on giving to my friends and my family and setting up so that my grandchildren will all have a college education. But what am I going to personally do for myself with this money? What's the first thing I'm going to buy? I'm going to buy a car,” said Lerynne West.
West also plans on helping families with premature babies by setting up a foundation in her premature grandson's name who passed away earlier this year.
