Cat dies, firefighter hurt in Freeport duplex fire
Freeport firefighters rescue two cats from a fire at a home Thursday on South Locust Street.
Fire crews responded to the fire around 6 a.m. in the 800 block of South Locust Street in Freeport.
Upon arrival, crews found a heavy blaze. They had to exit the house caused by the unsafe conditions.
Responders rescued two cats but were unable to save one. One firefighter suffered minor injuries. No one else was hurt.
The blaze took about two hours to extinguish.
The home experienced about $60,000 in damage.
The Red Cross is helping the single resident of the duplez.
