Byron football player arrested for criminal misdemeanor

BYRON, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Byron football player was arrested for a criminal misdemeanor dating back to last year.

According to Ogle County court records​, Richard Messling, 18, faces battery charges as part of his misdemeanor offense. The Ogle County State’s Attorney’s office reports that Messling allegedly put his penis on the face of another student.

Messling is currently a senior at Byron High School. He was part of Byron's state championship runner-up team and also wrestles at the school.

Messling reportedly turned himself in to the Byron Police Department before he was released. His arraignment is set for Jan. 18.
