WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- Burt Gerl has announced his bid for Winnebago County Board Chairman.
As a seven-year county board member, Gerl will run with the Democratic Party.
In a news release, Gerl says he would work with the county board, residents, neighborhood groups, business leaders, churches and faith-based organizations. He says his priorities include public safety, infrastructure, economic development and reinvesting in the workforce.
Gerl is the only candidate from the Democratic Party to announce a bid so far. Rockford Alderman Joe Chiarelli announced he would run for the role with the Republican Party.
Frank Haney, who currently serves as Winnebago County Chairman with the Republican Party, says he will not seek re-election for the position in 2020.
