Boone County inmates receive care bags upon release from jail

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) - When female inmates are released from the Boone County Jail, they'll be taking something with them to help improve their chances for a fresh start.

The Zonta Club of Belvidere donated 30 care bags for women leaving the Boone County Jail. The makeup bags were donated by Lisa Turbyville State Farm Office. Inside you'll find must-need items like soap, a toothbrush, shampoo and tampons. But there will also be items like cards for counseling sites and two free bus passes.

"We decided that we would prepare these bags for women that are leaving the jail, so that maybe they can be more successful their second time around in the community," said Barb Majernik. "Not just walk out the door and think, 'O.K. now what am I going to do.'"

The Donta Club members donated 30 bags, and told the County Jail that they should contact the club when they get down to five bags, and the club will see if they can do the project again.
