Blackhawk Fire Protection District fires chief

ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- The Blackhawk Fire Protection District board of trustees voted Wednesday night to fire its Chief Shane Schiro.

Board president Larry Kite says Schiro's heart was in the right place but the board has seen several operational and administrative deficiencies for the past few months and they felt they needed better leadership. Kite says Schiro was with the department for nearly 11 years serving as chief for the last two. The board appointed Jonathan Trail as its interim chief. Trail comes from the New Milford Fire Department where he was a deputy chief. 23 News reached out to Schiro and have not heard back.
