BELOIT, Wis. (WIFR) -- For ten years, Blackhawk Bank has set out to provide Thanksgiving Day meals to families in need throughout the stateline.
Blackhawk Bank partnered with Seneca Foods, Blackhawk Transport and the Gymnastic Academy of Rockford for this year's grateful giving food drive campaign.
The community organizations spent the last three weeks collecting more than 48,000 perishable food items.
Organizers say they hope to keep the giving spirit alive well past the holidays.
"People have been so generous, and it is so important as we come into the holiday season," says Max Dodson for the Caritas Food Pantry. "But not just the holiday season, it's year round. The toughest time that we have is September and October. We put out the word and this community has responded in such a wonderful way."
