BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) – The 10-year anniversary of Rockford’s relationship with Lidkoping, its sister city in Sweden, is giving Belvidere a chance to find a mutual city of their own.

A group from Falkoping, Sweden is in the Stateline to meet with the mayor of Belvidere as well as several aldermen as the two cities work to create a sister city relationship that would bring economic development. The area of Skaraborg where Falkoping is located is home to a manufacturer that builds 95% of a type of book case for IKEA. Mayor Mike Chamberlain says the relationship between the two cities will help families see how similar the two areas are, even though they are thousands of miles apart.

“I'm proud to say I consider all of the people that are coming friends. We are going to show them what its like to live here. It points out the similarities and not the differences between the two countries. I think that's a positive thing,” says Mayor Chamberlain.

Mayor Chamberlain will be showing the group from Sweden around Belvidere for the rest of the week.
