Suspect in custody after Beloit school goes on lockdown

BELOIT, Wis. (WIFR) -- UPDATE: Rock County officials say a suspect is in custody after the incident near Dewey Ave. in the Town of Beloit.

They say the man was barricaded in the 1900 block of Dewey Avenue.

Law enforcement is still in the area.


Authorities are asking people to stay inside in one Beloit neighborhood as officers are trying to arrest a man.

Rock County Dispatch said officers are trying to arrest the man near Bayliss Ave. and Dewey Ave. which is just a couple blocks north of Merrill Elementary School.

The School District of Beloit confirmed that Merrill Elementary School is currently on lockdown.

Beloit police say this is unrelated to Monday night's shooting on Elm Street.

They will notify the public when it's all clear.
