BELOIT, WI (WIFR) -- The Beloit Police Department swore in five new patrol officers at a ceremony welcoming each one to the force.

Isaac Asche, Oscar Asilis, Michael Doran and Nicole Petitt will start out their careers attending the police academy at Blackhawk Technical College starting on January 28, 2019. They anticipate to graduate on May 31, 2019.

Michael Higuchi was sworn in as an officer and received his badge during the ceremony.

"We look for cops who have competence and character, and we really focus on that heavily. We're also looking for people that got life experiences, people that are committed, dedicated, willing to take those next steps because this is not a for-the-faint-of-heart type of profession," says Chief David Zibolski of the Beloit police.
