A $38 million project at Beloit College is in the running for a prestigious architecture award.

The Powerhouse, designed by Belvidere native Jeanne Gang, is a finalist for the 2019 Architizer A+ Awards. The awards intend to promote and celebrate the world’s best architecture.

The Powerhouse repurposes the decommissioned Blackhawk Generating Station on the Rock River into a 120,000-square-foot student center for Beloit College. It is set to officially open this fall.

Last year, the Powerhouse earned the 2018 WAFX prize at the World Architectural Festival.

The Architizer A+ Awards will be decided by public voting. If you would like to vote for The Powerhouse,
