ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Winnebago County State's Attorney's office announced that 22 charges have been filed against bank hostage suspect Nicholas August. Those charges include nine counts of sexual assault, four counts of aggravated battery and three counts of burglary.
Winnebago County State's Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross said she is proud of how all the law enforcement agencies handled this incident.
"I would like to applaud the efforts of not only the Rockford Police Department, but all of the law enforcement agencies that joined in to assist them in this incident," Ross said. "I'm happy we were able to bring it to a peaceful conclusion."
August is accused of robbing the Heritage Credit Union on East State Street that led to a seven hour standoff. Investigators say August held a woman who worked in the credit union hostage and proceeded to sexually assault her.
August is set to be back in court on January 29.
