ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- For a small pocket of Machesney Park, a baby alligator caused a bit of a scene on an otherwise quiet Saturday night.

The two and half foot long baby gator was found just before 7:30 p.m. We spoke with deputies with the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office who say while the little guy was out of their pay grade, the county's animal services division stepped in and took care of business.
The alligator was safely caught and sent to a Chicago-area reptile rescue.
The Sheriff's Office says no one in the area knew about the gator and luckily, no person or creature was hurt in the rescue.
