ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Choir students at Auburn High School will have the chance to perform at one of the most famous art venues next spring.
Students from the Creative and Performing Arts program plan to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City next May.
Composer Sydney Guillaume invited students to participate in a symposium that will celebrate his music. He collaborated as a guest composer via Skype with West Middle School during the 2017-18 school year.
"We want to make the most of this opportunity, because it’s more than a concert in New York," said Auburn High School CAPA choir director Daniel Beetstra. “It’s a statement about who we are as a community and who we can become.”
Students and staff will promote several fundraisers in upcoming months to raise money for the trip. The group has already set up a GoFundMe to help with some of the costs.
