Auburn and Guilford battle in an a cappella "Drop the Mic" event

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The definition of irony is having the most talented high school singers in Rockford take part in a competition, and have the least talented singer in Rockford media judge it.. But such was the case tonight.

23 News Anchor Mike Garrigan joined former SwedishAmerica CEO Bill Gorski and John Dorsey from Mercy Health in an a cappella battle between two RPS schools.

Auburn’s Rockappella group is raising money to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York; while Guilford's Harmonics group is an IHSA semi-finalist raising funds for a trip to Dayton, Ohio. On Wednesday, the two school's faced off in a “Drop the Mic” night at Auburn Both groups were extremely talented, but in the end it was Auburn taking home the trophy. Also, in a highy competitive two round lip sync battle it was Auburn Principal Jenny Keffer edging out Guilford Principal Gus Carter for the title.
