ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- One fast food chain is giving back to our local heroes by hosting a first responder’s night to honor those who risk their lives for our safety every day.
Arby’s on Charles Street brought both the Cherry Valley Fire and Police Departments together for a special night. Firefighters and officers helped bus tables and interact with the community and talk about safety and fire prevention. Some first responders say being able to get out in the community and interact with residents is just one reason they love working to keep us all safe.
"Cherry Valley does a pretty good excessive public education with using our part time fire inspector so they're in the schools all the time, they do events at the mall so yeah, we like to be proactive. I mean it's the community that really keeps paying us so we want to keep paying back to them any way we can,” said Lieutenant with the Cherry Valley Fire Department Doug Edwards.
Ten percent of the proceeds from Monday night’s event will go toward the police and fire departments. Lieutenant Edwards say the fire department will use the funds to continue its fire prevention programs in the schools.
