ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women. In fact, a woman dies every minute of cardiovascular disease. That's why a group of women and men gathered to get serious about their heart health.

This year's Go Red for Women luncheon stressed the importance of taking steps to fight heart disease like exercising more frequently, changing your diet, knowing your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers and encouraging each other to go to the doctor for check-ups.

90-year-old Pat Green also shared her story. Despite being extremely active, she still had to have two stents put in after a cardiologist discovered an 80 percent blockage. She's now encouraging other women to be their own advocates and take care of themselves.
