Local annual remembrance vigil for fallen children

ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) --- Partnering with the Rockford community, the Mercyhealth Development Foundation holds the annual Angel Statue of Hope in Waterside Park every year since its installation in 2003.

The bronze angel is dedicated to the memory of any child who has passed away, whether during a pregnancy, during infancy or older. For some, the sculpture acknowledges that a parent's pain of losing a child never truly goes away.

"Even if you've never seen the face of your child, you are still a parent and the love that a parent feels for their child is something extremely strong and beautiful," said parent and keynote speaker Kelly Hubert.

Families who attended tonight were encouraged to bring a single white flower with them to place at the base of the statue in honor of the children.
