ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Fifth and sixth grade students from the Alpine Academy in Rockford visited elders at several rehab centers and nursing homes Tuesday afternoon to spread holiday cheer.

The children sang Christmas carols and participated in several activities with residents at Alden Debes Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Morning Star Village and Amberwood Care Center in Rockford.

"Not often do we get people out to these nursing homes where people are just waiting for some to come and share the season with them," said Scott Dabson, Alpine Academy outreach director. "This is a great opportunity to share the season and interact with them."

Dabson says children were able to sing at Alden Debes for the first time with help form one parent who works there.
