ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ----- Kids of all ages barreled down to the discovery center to celebrate all things farming with “Ag All Around Us” today in Rockford.
Partnering with the Winnebago-Boone Farm Bureau, the event marks the start of National Agriculture Week. Local farmers set up exhibits highlighting their various wares and a petting zoo brought kids up close and personal with their favorite barnyard pals. Organizers say this celebration is a fantastic way to introduce the power of agriculture to some of the youngest Stateliners.
"We've got everything from dairy calves to baby goats, to some chickens. Kids are learning how to make butter and learning about honey production and we wanted the folks to really learn where their food comes from locally, right around here in Rockford," said Diane Cleland, Agricultural Literacy Coordinator.
The event was also sponsored in part by the Farm Bureau's Agriculture in the Classroom program, as well as a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
