UPDATE: Active shooter threat investigation at MacDill Air Force Base

UPDATE: CBS News reports the lockdown has been lifted.

Law enforcement members are responding to MacDill Air Force Base after reports of an active shooter. MacDill confirmed the base in Tampa is on lockdown, CBS affiliate WTSP-TV reports.

The base confirmed to CBS News that it sent out an alert for a possible active shooter and are currently assessing the situation. MacDill is the headquarters for U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command.

The base employs more than 15,000 people, WTSP reports. A large number of military members and their families also live on base in military housing.
