ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- It was a day of honoring those who fought for our country at Saint Mark's Lutheran church. The room was completely filled with people wanting to honor their local veterans.
"We were invited here today to share the celebration of Veterans Day and honor all veterans who have served,” said Loren Salzman from VFW Loves Park Honor Guard.
The veterans were treated to music by the Kishwaukee valley concert playing a variety of music.
"This is my favorite concert of the year absolutely its sad to see less and less veterans in the audience but it just always brings tears to my eyes just watching them they're just an amazing generation ,” Kiswaukee Orchestra director Phyllis Hoberg said.
Families of all generations came out to show their support including the smallest members of the family.
"For them to play the service songs from all the different branches and have all the different branches recognized today just makes veterans day a really nice occasion,” Salzman said.
The VFW guard reminds us that everyday should be day to honor veterans who have served or are currently serving,
"It's a chance to thank them for their service so many of them and their families have made such a sacrifices for the country that we all have a huge debt of gratitude that we owe to them,” Salzman said.
