ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- One year ago, the Tokarz family was craving something different.
“I guess I was just kind of fed up with the way we were living life . We are 'go,go go' people and I decided we needed a really big change,” says Philan Tokarz.
So Philan, with husband Aaron, decided to convert a school bus into their home – moving themselves, three children, and a dog into it. Now they travel the country year-round as a family.
"I think now that we have so much less, we have so much more,” says Philan. “We have so much more love and time and a lot of special moments spent with our children."
"It has allowed us to be more present with our kids and that is the biggest thing," says Aaron.
Their children Freya, Brig, and Cashin use the outdoors as their classroom, with curiosity driving their education.
"We are visiting so many different museums and seeing so many different walks of life and learning how people work. It is more than sitting and memorizing facts,” says Philan.
A life unorthodox, but fulfilling for the family who lives it.
"This isn’t for everybody, but it is for us. As long as you are along for the ride, then you're experiencing what life comes and it is totally worth it,” says Aaron.
