A Ministry of Restoration Church gives out free school supplies
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- More than 1,000 students will have new school supplies for this school year thanks to A Ministry of Restoration Church.
Other local businesses joined the church for the 7th annual Youth Backpack Supply Giveaway where supplies, books, and toys were donated to local families. They had backpacks for students going into pre-school all the way up to college. Each backpack was stuffed with items that each grade level will need. The church's pastor says this day more than just giving out backpacks; it’s a day of bringing families together to enjoy themselves.
"We thought outside the box for the need of the students and to help parents with their children. We did a survey several years ago; it was $101 for one child, now it's over $600. So we need to really tap into our children and to our families," said Ruby J. Martin, the Pastor at A Ministry of Restoration Church.
Last year the church served 850 students. It's expecting to serve even more this year. Any extra supplies will be donated to local schools.
