ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Four actresses from the movie “A League of Their Own” will pay a visit to Rockford next month for a celebration to honor the movie's director Penny Marshall.
Rockford and the International Women’s Baseball Center will host the celebration on Sept. 13 and Sept. 14.
The event will recognize Marshall for bringing national spotlight the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and the Rockford Peaches. Marshall died last December at the age of 75.
Marshall’s daughter Tracy Reiner, who played outfielder and pitcher Betty “Spaghetti” Horn in the movie, will attend the celebration.
Megan Cavanagh, who played second baseman Marla Hooch; Anne Ramsay, who played first baseman Helen Haley, and Patti Pelton, who played second baseman Marbleann Wilkinson, will also join the celebration.
Tom Hanks, who played manager Jimmy Dugan, and Geena Davis, who played catcher Dottie Hinson, have signed on as honorary co-chairs for the celebration.
In addition to the Penny Marshall celebration, the weekend will include “Play Ball for Penny” on Friday, Sept. 13, at Indoor City Market. On Saturday Sept. 14, a replica of the first of nine pylons will be unveiled at the future museum site of the International Women’s Baseball Center.
