Ogle County Lieutenant is killed in a head-on crash

OGLE COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- A Byron man, who was a Lieutenant for the Ogle County Sheriff's Office, was killed early Saturday morning after a head-on collision in Ogle County.

50-year-old Randall Hilliard of Byron was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on IL 72 at Oak Court.

Illinois State Police troopers say Hilliard was traveling eastbound on IL 72 when his pickup truck crossed the center line, striking an SUV traveling westbound on IL 72 at Oak Court.

51-year-old Rick Sgro of Oregon, who was driving the SUV, along with his three passengers, 24-year-old Allison Sgro and 20-year-old Abigail Sgro of Mount Morris, and 20-year-old Daniel Merritt of Gering, Nebraska were taken to local hospitals. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

The ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and the investigation is on-going.

ISP was assisted on the scene by the Ogle County Sheriff's Office, Ogle County Coroner's Office, Byron Fire/EMS, Stillman Valley Fire/EMS and Maggio's Towing.
