(WIFR) -- The family of a slain Illinois State Police Trooper Nick Hopkins received a holiday surprise from a national foundation.

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a 9/11 organization, has paid the mortgage of Hopkins in full. The announcement came from the organization's CEO Sunday on FOX News.

Hopkins was shot and killed in the line of duty while serving a warrant in East St. Louis in August.

Since 2015, the foundation says its first responder program has helped 40 fallen first responder families with young children. For more information on the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, click here.
