85-year-old man, found with gunshot wound to head in Belvidere, pronounced dead

Belvidere Police have closed an investigation on the shooting death of an 85-year-old man.

Police recovered evidence from the scene, including a note from the man. Officers also collected information from the Winnebago County Coroner's Office and witnesses.

An 85-year-old man, who police found with a gunshot wound to the head in Belvidere, has died.

Police responded to medical calls and found the man around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Gail Court. He was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.

Belvidere Police tell 23 News the death was not considered suspicious, but the exact cause of the victim's death is unknown.

Belvidere Police detectives are conducting an investigation on the death.
