The Forest City celebrates 7th Annual Stroll on State

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR)- - Rain or shine... Rockford's seventh annual stroll on state celebration is a hit.

"They love the parade, the horse drawn carriages, and the balloons they have out there. Seeing Santa Claus, and the Grinch... It's getting everybody in the Christmas spirit. Even though the weather is poor, everyone is having a great time.”

Autumn Sottile is back for a third year selling s'mores for her 4 H club.

"the four H's stand for head, heart, hands and health. It's teaching kids skills they will need in life. Sewing, first aid, robotics, STEM, a bunch of different countries and languages. It's a lot of fun,” said Sottile.

It seems like the community is used to less than pleasant weather.

"It's always been cold, after all it's the midwest. People just bundle up and get together and have fun.

There is a reason they fight the elements to enjoy an evening of fun.

"Definitely look forward to the parade that is behind me and the lighting, the lighting is the best part,” said Sottile.

When the mist started to fall thousands gathered to dance in the rain as they waited for the tree to be lit. Followed by firework show that lights up the city.
