CHERRY VALLEY, Ill. (WIFR) -- A 77-year-old man struck by a car Thursday in Cherry Valley has died from his injuries.
Ervey Romero, a Belvidere man, was identified as the victim, according to the Winnebago County Coroner's Office.
An autopsy determined Romero died from blunt trauma to the head due to the crash.
It happened around 3:15 p.m. on Pawlisch Drive, in front of Busch Jewelers near CherryVale Mall. Police say the involved driver and vehicle stayed on scene.
The driver was reportedly traveling northbound on Pawlisch Drive during the crash. Police say Romero was walking eastbound at the time of the collision.
Police say Romero was sent to the hospital with serious injuries, but was later pronounced dead.
The Cherry Valley Police Department, Winnebago County Sheriff's Office and Boone County Sheriff's Accident Reconstruction Unit are investigating the death.
