ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ----- The numbers are out and there's a lot to be excited about when it comes to home sales in the Stateline.
Released on Wednesday, Rockford Area Realtors found 4,847 homes were sold in the Rockford region in 2019, 200 more than 2018.
This marks the largest sales volume in 13 years and the fifth straight year of home sale increases.
The good news is not only limited to sales but also sales price. The 2019 average price was just shy of $138,000 dollars, the highest average price in a dozen years.
"We've beaten the state of Illinois three out of the last 5 years in terms of price increases in terms of percentage. So that's been very positive and I think people around this region need to recognize that things are appreciating quite well here in Rockford,” said Conor Brown.
A big reason for the price rise is a record drop in monthly housing inventory.
Hitting 1,029 in 2019, last year is the lowest total since records were first kept in 1998, less than a third of the monthly inventory that we saw at the start of the housing recession in 2008.
