Amid ransomware attack, RPS 205 teachers go old school

ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) --- The Rockford Public School District fell victim to a ransomware attack and part of the fallout is the loss of technology within the classrooms.

"This is my first time in a classroom, which has been interesting with not having internet my second week of school," says first year teacher Rebecca Balsman.

For other teachers like Julian Jaques who's been teaching for 26 year, it was trip down memory lane.

"I remember one of the schools I was at, we had one of the first smart boards, it was a long time ago, probably 15 years ago," says Jaques.

Teachers had to completely rethink lesson plans.

"Years ago you kept all these file folders full of stuff for your units and now all that stuff is digitally kept," says Jaques.

Regardless, teachers say the learning must go on.

"I don't feel like we're in limbo, it's just a different mode of instruction right now and some of the things that we will use is just delayed," says Jaques.
