23 News Exclusive: Robin Long reacts to arrest in her son's murder case
"My reaction was emotional, I was happy, I was nervous I had lots of questions," said Robin Long after learning that 26 year old Nickles Parks was arrested for the murder of Long's son Jamie Stephens
Winnebago County Investigators called Robin out of the blue Wednesday to say they arrested someone for Jamie's murder, someone who robin did not know.
"I never heard of the Parks man," said Long. "Jamie has never spoke of him and i've never seen him before"
But Robin did see Nickles Parks for the first time Thursday afternoon when he pleaded not guilty to Jamie's killing. "It was scary," said Long "I was nervous, my heart was racing, my mouth was dry, and I didn't know what to expect; but I had to see who he was."
"What would you say to Nikles Parks if you had the chance to speak to him," asked 23 News Anchor Mike Garrigan.
"Why? Why did you do it, why did you take my baby's life from me," said Long.
Since it was Robin who received the initial call, she was the person responsible with sharing the news of the arrest with her family. "Most of them were happy that an arrest was made. None of them knew who Parks was. So we're still trying to piece together how they knew Jamie."
Long said she doesn't have many people tell her, 'I know how you feel'. "No actually nobody tells me that, usually they tell me they don't know what to say and i say that's OK but neither do I."
Robin still holds her belief that more than one person is responsible for her son's death.
In court today, Parks pleaded not guilty to the murder charges. A judge denied defense attorneys' request.
