Suspect of March homicide in Rockford identified, already in jail for separate charges

After months of investigation, authorities have arrested a suspect of a homicide investigation dating back to March.

Javari Conley, 24, faces charges of first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Conley is accused of fatally shooting 19-year-old Jaime Gonzalez in the parking lot of 4865 Linden Road on Sunday, March 8. Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputies say Gonzalez was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot and later died form his injuries.

Conley was already held in the Winnebago County Jail for an alleged carjacking at a Rockford Peak Fitness location on March 20. Police say he forced a man out of the car, then led police on a pursuit.

Conley is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.

Officials call the incident at the Great Oaks Apartment complex Thursday evening a homicide investigation and release the victim's name.

Jaime Gonzalez, 19, of Rockford is identified as the man fatally shot around 10:30 p.m. in the 4800 block of Linden Road in Rockford.

The preliminary cause of death is a gunshot wound .

This is an active investigation.


Officials report that a 19-year-old man was shot in the 4800 block of Linden Road Thursday night, and later died of his injuries at a local hospital.

Around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, the Winnebago County Coroner's Officer were informed of a shooting incident in the 4800 block of Linden Road in Rockford.

Paramedics transported him to the hospital and he later died from his injuries. His identification is being withheld pending notification by all next of kin.

The death is under investigation by the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department. An autopsy is pending by the Winnebago County Coroner's Office.
