Beloit police said several Rock County departments were involved in a dangerous pursuit of a stolen vehicle on Tuesday.

Police arrested 17-year-old Christian Kayser for burglary, fleeing and a variety of other charges.

According to the Beloit Police Department, it started when officers were investigating a burglary that happened in the 2000 block of Cobblestone Court. Police said the suspect stole a 2017 Dodge Challenger and a handgun.

Authorities posted suspect and vehicle information on social media, and at 5:30 p.m., Janesville police tried to stop the vehicle, but it drove away.

A high-speed chase ensued on Highway 51 towards Beloit. Officers and deputies from Rock County, Beloit and Town of Beloit were involved in the chase. At times, authorities said they stopped pursuing the vehicle due to an "extreme high risk to the rest of the public." The suspect continued to drive around the City of Beloit.

During the chase, the suspect vehicle hit a squad car from the Rock County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said the deputy was not injured.

Eventually, Kayser was arrested at the intersection of Colley and Milwaukee Roads without further incident. A handgun was recovered from the vehicle. Police also found out Kayser had an outstanding warrant for operating a motor vehicle without owners consent, as well as being a suspect in a different auto theft case.

Beloit police said officers and deputies from Janesville PD, Town of Beloit PD, The Rock County Sheriff's Office and Beloit PD "did a great job of coordinating their efforts to bring this to a peaceful conclusion."

They also thanked citizens for paying attention at the many intersections that had to cross during the pursuit. "Your vigilance kept you and us safe during a dangerous event," police said.
