ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- "15th & Chris" donated $700 toward the Family Peace Center, a facility that will offer resources and support for survivors of domestic violence in Rockford.
The well-known burger joint donated two dollars from each Tommi Mac burger in May to support the Family Justice Center, according to a Facebook post from the city of Rockford.
Owner James Purifoy teamed up with the city of Rockford to create the "Tommi Mac," a unique burger named after Rockford mayor Tom McNamara. The pizza-themed burger is topped with pepperoni, Italian sausage and house marinara sauce all on a pretzel bun.
Purifoy told says he's been affected by domestic violence and wants to do his part in combatting the issue locally.
"I share memories of domestic violence within my family," Purifoy told 23 News in May. "I was like heads on, like let's get out there and tackle this., whether we just bring in, put an eye on it or give people information on things that they can do."
"15th & Chris" donates a portion of its sales to a different local nonprofit each month.
