ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- There was a community listening session at the Elizabeth Catholic Community center to discuss what people would like to see at the Family Peace Center.
The purpose of these sessions is to get the input of community members on what they think the family peace center needs. The city of Rockford encourages people to reach out to their local community center so their voices can heard. The location for the peace center still hasn't been decided but the goal is to have the center open by July first of next year.
"Throughout the community we see that the need is so great if we have one person at a listening session or if we have fifty the need in our community for a family peace center,” Mayor McNamara said. “A one stop shop that really helps survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault get the resources they need, and get the tools that they need, get the support that they need is absolutely critical."
