“I love sports, and this industry allows me to have a job that I enjoy going to every day.”
Mike Buda, an Elmwood Park and Palatine, Illinois, native, graduated from Northern Illinois University and the Illinois Center for Broadcasting. After a stint with Sun Times’ subsidiary, Pioneer Press, Mike joined the WIFR team as a photographer in April 2013. He worked his way up through the ranks as a multimedia journalist and weekend sports anchor before leading the sports department.
“Each day is different, and I get to meet different people from different backgrounds and tell their stories.”
Mike credits his parents as having a big influence on his life. “My dad showed me where hard work can take you. He immigrated to the U.S. from Italy when he was just a teenager, and worked tirelessly to support his family so they could build a better life. My mom showed me compassion and how to treat other people. They both have pushed me to succeed, and they are the reason why I am where I am today.”
Outside of the station, Mike likes to spend time with his wife, Chynna, and his “puppers,” Clementine and Fig. “Because they keep me from going insane.”
