BYRON, Ill. (WIFR) - While the Governor touts the recently passed state budget, lawmakers fail to reach a decision on the future of state nuclear plants, including the one in Byron where thousands of state jobs are on the line.

Exelon leaders threatened to close the plant due to a financial deficit, but want to strike a deal with the state to continue operating. Gov. Pritzker said he hopes a final decision will come soon.

“We have done everything that we can to stand up for clean energy principles to make sure that we’re expanding renewables in the state. I have set out and I have stuck with those and so my hope is we’ll end up with a good energy bill,” Gov. Pritzker said.
