“I knew I wanted to be involved in sports, but I knew I wasn’t going to be a pro athlete,” Joe says. “Originally, I wanted to get into print journalism because I love to write, but I also loved to act and be on stage, so television seemed fitting.”
A Streamwood native, Joe attended Northern Illinois University and received degrees in broadcast journalism with minors in history and communications.
He credits his mom with helping to shape the man he is today, and adds that his wife is the most important person in his life. The couple will welcome a new addition in late February.
But when at work, Joe’s focus is on the incredible athletes in northwest Illinois.
“My favorite thing about being a journalist is telling the athletes' stories – where they are and how they got there. Highlights are nice, but being able to go beyond the playing field and showcase an athlete in a different way is always more rewarding,” Joe adds. “This area thrives on local sports. Whether it’s Friday night football or a Wednesday on the volleyball court, high school athletes deserve to have the spotlight on them.”
